Erythema Chronicum Migrans (ECM) is a skin rash caused by an infection with the bacterium Borrelia burgdorferi, transmitted by tick bites. It is the most characteristic symptom of the earliest stage of Lyme disease.
Symptoms
- Red, ring- or oval-shaped spot on the skin
- The spot slowly expands with a clear center and a red edge
- Possible itching or burning sensation
- Other symptoms: fatigue, fever, muscle and joint pain
