Erythema Nodosum

Erythema nodosum is a skin condition characterized by painful red bumps, typically on the shins. It is the most common type of panniculitis, an inflammation of the subcutaneous fat.

Symptoms

  • Painful, warm, red bumps or nodules, especially on the shins
  • Joint pains and inflammation
  • General feeling of malaise, fatigue
  • Fever and weight loss in some cases

Causes

Erythema nodosum may be triggered by various factors such as sarcoidosis, infections (streptococcus, tuberculosis), medications (antibiotics, birth control pills), pregnancy, or autoimmune diseases (such as Crohn’s disease).

Diagnosis

Diagnosis is often based on the appearance of the rash and medical history, sometimes supplemented with blood tests, a throat culture, or a skin biopsy.

Treatment

  • Non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs) for pain and inflammation
  • Rest and elevating the affected limbs
  • Cold compresses for symptom relief
  • Compression stockings

Self-care tips

  • Wear loose, comfortable clothing to prevent irritation
  • Light exercises to improve blood circulation
  • Adequate rest and sleep

Consultation types

Walk-in Consultation

A walk-in consultation allows you to have a real-time video consultation with the doctor without a prior appointment. You will enter a virtual waiting room and the doctor will attend to you as soon as they are available.

E-mail advice

An email advice allows you to receive a professional assessment from a certified dermatologist via email within two working days. You will complete a questionnaire describing your skin concern, and the doctor will provide their evaluation and recommendations in writing.

Physical Consultation

A physical consultation involves an in-person visit to the doctor's clinic or designated location. You will have the opportunity to discuss your skin concerns face-to-face and receive a thorough examination and treatment plan.

Video Consultation

A video consultation enables you to have a remote appointment with the doctor via a secure video platform. This option provides convenience and flexibility, allowing you to discuss your skin concerns from the comfort of your own home.
